The Things We Forget To Change
Written by Rhia Burston, The Things We Forget To Change tells the story of Ronnie, who wakes up in hospital, unable to remember how she got there, and when someone she hasn’t seen for a very long time walks in, it leaves them both with a lot of unanswered questions.
Directed and Produced by Eilidh Evans, this play is an observation of guilt, fear, coercion, and what people will do to escape it and protect the people they care about.
The piece builds tension well and there are some nice moments of natural conversation between Daniella Fairhurst as Ronnie and James Greaney as Tom. Fairhurst’s performance is robust and instinctive, showing the vulnerable side to her strong character.
The use of sound and lighting throughout the performance builds the tension well and gives the audience the sense of apprehension that Ronnie’s character is experiencing.
Jamie Bligh as Mike and Shelley Rivers as Nurse completes the company who are all round well cast, the performances are good, the story is gripping, the tension builds well.
However, the only criticism would be that we wanted to see more!
The piece ends on a cliffhanger of a moment (without giving any spoilers away), and whilst this did leave the audience engaged with what could have happened next, it felt that this would have been a good point to have an interval and come back to find out.
Maybe this is an addition for the future, we would love to see it!
