Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
I must admit I have never really been a massive fan of Pantos, however this particular offering was an absolutely snort laughing type of an evening. From big laughs, to bold performances and such joyful and playful chaos, this is everything you would expect from a Panto and more, even some of the special effects took me by surprise. My face and cheeks were in pain from laughing so much.
Now we all know the classic tale of Snow White, however this particular production had a few rewrites but kept within the main plots of the story.
I do feel however, that this show should have been called Muddles and his two sidekicks. Muddles is played by Aaron James, with his brilliant wit, dad jokes and fart sense of humour, if you’re a little bit childish like me, you will be rolling off your chair with laughter.
The dynamic trio of Muddles, Queen Dragonella (played by the legendary Lesley Joseph) and The Man in the Mirror (played by Rob Rinder) all need their own show together because they were just epic on stage as a group. From Lesley throwing her toilet rolls in the audience “by accident” and mixing up her lines “by accident” she was just a pleasure and pure joy to watch.
You could tell that the three of these cast members were having a ball and a great time performing, they had such wonderful chemistry together and really bounced of each other in a way that really made their performances so solid and genuine.
Also, just a shout out to the Magnificent Seven, even though they did not play a big part in the story, when they were on stage, they were funny and engaging.
I really loved this set design and the costumes, from gorgeous glittering backdrops to outstanding vibrant colourful costumes, there was never a moment where it was dull without colour. It was full of joy and so magical to the point where we have our character The Man in the Mirror gliding over the audience on a motorcycle. How I wished I could have had a turn on that!
Even the choreography was simple but worked perfectly, as the dancers do not just stay in the background, they became particularly important for each scene they are part of, with costume changes to match each shift set design.
I highly recommend you see this pantomime before time runs out as your kids will love the jokes and the silly humour and the adults get to enjoy the innuendo-tinged humour, and who does not love a show with audience participation........that's the fun of Pantomime!
