Sleigh Miserables

Heading to the Old Joint Stock Theatre is always a treat, however add in some festive cheer and it makes for an exceptional afternoon of merriment and musical theatre joy.

Sleigh Miserables is essentially a cabaret show where a Christmas / Musical Theatre mash up is at the top of the tree.  Our three performers, Caprice Lane, Jack Carr and the host with the most Emily Hespe wowed with their incredible talent and quite sublime three part harmonies of some Christmas classics and Musical Theatre favourites.  Every song cleverly crafted by Musical Director Callum Thompson who even lent his own dulcet tones to a couple of the songs.

We heard from such shows as Wicked, with a stunning rendition of The Wizard and I by Caprice Lane, to an incredibly moving mash up of I’ll Be Home For Christmas and Bring Him Home from Les Miserables by Jack Carr which bought a tear to my eye.  Both of their voices were quite simply stunning and every song they performed was pitch perfect.  Further musical treats from Waitress, The Phantom of the Opera and Anastasia ensued, followed by Christmas stalwarts All I Want For Christmas Is You and Last Christmas….Whamageddon is well and truly over for me now! ;-)

Our host, Emily Hespe bought her Antipodean charm to the stage, blending humour and talent, moving the show along with ease.  Each of her musical moments were again vocally impressive and collectively the sound between all three performers was beautiful.

This show is only at the Old Joint Stock Theatre on one more occasion for two shows on Saturday 13th December, so if you need to get into the festive spirit, whilst getting your musical theatre fix, I couldn’t recommend this show highly enough.  Sleigh Miserables certainly brings that warm fuzzy feeling associated with Christmas, so leave the Grinches at the door, don your best Christmas jumper and join in the fun.

This show was reviewed on the 6th December at the Old Joint Stock Theatre, Birmingham where it plays again for two performances on the 13th December 2025. Tickets available here: Sleigh Miserables - The Ultimate Musical Theatre and Christmas Cabaret
